At the center of the captivating rolling hills, resided a boy named Shepherd. His existence was mostly untarnished, simple yet virtuous. His primary duty was essentially to care for his herd of rams.

Their soft bleating and the whispering of the breezes among the solo tree on the hilltop were his only co-dwellers. Day after day, looking out for his wards inculcated in him a feeling of quiet fulfillment.

But, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. During one such occasion from sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a troublesome plan.

Stories of predators preying on sheep had been heard times and again in the town. So, the boy opted to used this fear and played a joke on the townsfolk.

One afternoon he ran into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf attacking my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but found no beast.

The boy chuckled at the puzzle on their faces. This trick continued for a couple of more days. Yet, one morning, a real wolf did attack the flock. The shepherd boy dashed for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, check here the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Devastated, he went back to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of dishonesty.

The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as relevant today as it was anciently.
